We broke records at the Eco Sport Challenge!

1/03/2023

On March 18th, the Lyon-based Efor teams participated in a unique inter-company challenge with great enthusiasm: picking up as many cigarette butts as possible in one morning. Organized by Xpérience Sport and the “Courir à Lyon” association, the Eco Sport Challenge aims to raise awareness and bring together companies and individuals around environmental issues, particularly waste management. After a successful first edition in Lyon in 2022, the event decided to settle in the capital of the Gauls for a day.

The goal was clear: to beat the world record for picking up cigarette butts by surpassing the one-million mark. Supported by Pierre-Ambroise BOSSE, the world champion of the 800 meters race, and many other athletes, the 11 participating teams spent three hours crisscrossing the streets of Lyon to give the city a good clean-up. And it was no small feat!

Our team, composed of 14 Eforcenés, managed to collect over 20 liters of cigarette butts, 70 plastic bottles, and 110 cans. Although it was a sad record, knowing that a single cigarette butt pollutes 500L of water, we understand the determination of our team and the satisfaction of having acted for the planet.

Thanks to Pierre MATALSKI, a sea adventurer (fyi: he crossed the Atlantic solo and unassisted in 2012), and Julia VIRAT, a high mountain guide, for representing the Efor team and bringing so much positivity and energy to this moment.
